Botox for Bruxism and Teeth Grinding

Grinding or clenching your teeth?

About 10% of the general population suffer from bruxism where they subconciously grind or clench their teeth. This habit not only is annoying but could cause some permanent damage to your teeth. Some of the symptoms of teeth grinding include:
  • Teeth chipping or breaking
  • Jaw pain, limited movement
  • Migraine/headache/jawache
  • Over developed jaw muscles
Most cases of bruxism is worse at nights during your sleep, which makes it hard to deal with. BOTOX injections can be used to relax these muscles to reduce their action and break the cycle.

Why Botox?

Botox is the brand name for botulinum toxin, which is a powerful agent used to paralyse muscles. By carefully injecting into selected muscles fibres, we can help reduce the muscle function. When used in someone who suffers from bruxism or teeth grinding, the overactive jaw muscles are reduced in size. Botox is administed into the masseter muscle and typically the effects can last between 3-6 months long. On an aesthetics point of view, some people desire to have a softer looking jawline and botox can help achieve this without surgery.
