Dr Martin Tomkinson
My interest and subsequent journey into dentistry began following a period of work experience as a school boy at my uncle’s Dental Practice. My interest was immediately piqued and I was impressed at what a challenging and fulfilling job it seemed to be.
I began my dental studies in 1995 at the prestigious University of Liverpool and graduated with my Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2000. Experience gained here was extensive and varied reflecting the high levels of treatment need in Merseyside at that time.
I returned to my home town of Newcastle under Lyme following qualification and have been working in general practice ever since. I have gained significant experience in all aspects of general dentistry and particularly enjoy restoring people’s confidence in their smiles. I also take tremendous satisfaction in seeing nervous patients and hopefully helping them to put their fears to rest and enable them to become happy and confident patients. I am starting the SAAD (Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry) course this year. Once completed I will be able to offer IV (intravenous) or inhalation sedation techniques to help further manage the anxiety of particularly nervous patients.
When not at work I enjoy exercising, horticulture (especially the growing of rare hot chilli peppers), and spending time with my wife, two daughters and friends.
